Ikale, Ilaje, and Apoi are related ethnic group and subgroups of the Yoruba people in the Local Government Area in Ondo State, Nigeria. Ikale is composed of fourteen communities in the southwestern part of the state sharing boundaries with Ilaje and Apoi to the south.
In general, Ondo State is established on February 3, 1976 from the former Western State. The geographical area is populated mostly by the Yoruba subgroups and has an overwhelming mangrove-swamp forest, tropical rain forest, and wooded savanna. The place which is rich in natural resources makes its people skilled in aquatic livelihood and can turn the environment to their advantage.
Due to the economic and political changes from the 1960s to 1980s, most of the people with Yoruba bloodline migrated to the United Kingdom and the United States of America, also in Cuba, Venezuela, and the other parts of Latin America.
Here in Texas and the surrounding states, we strive to gather our brothers and sisters living in the diaspora through the Ikale-Ilaje-Apoi Progressive Union to empower each other and encourage to work together to transform the economic, educational, and social life of our own Yoruba people in Ondo State, Nigeria.
